Weather Data
Weather data is the lifeblood of the weather market. For structuring
and pricing weather derivatives and for tracking positions during a
season, traders, end-users, and portfolio risk managers require:
 |
Historical records of daily observations,
typically for at least 30 years |
 |
Ongoing daily feeds of prior-day measurements
|
 |
Short to medium range forecasts of daily weather
conditions |
RMS and
strategic partner Earth Satellite Corporation (EarthSat) provide this
full range of historical, ongoing, and forecasted weather data for a
series of primary weather stations in all countries with active weather
trading. All data is integrated within the Climetrix system and can be
sold or licensed separately. RMS and EarthSat can also source a wide
variety of data for other less commonly-traded stations to assist
clients who have specific data needs.
One critical issue with all weather data is quality and reliability.
RMS and EarthSat have developed an extensive set of proprietary
algorithms and procedures for processing data to ensure maximum quality
and reliability for weather trading applications. More than 70% of
active traders in the weather market rely on RMS and EarthSat's
cleaned daily data and
cleaned and enhanced historical data as an integral part of
their trading operations. |
