WASHINGTON - The Weather Risk Management
Association (WRMA), the international trade organization of the
weather risk management industry, today announced that Martin
Malinow of Connecticut-based XL Weather & Energy will serve as a
member of the Association's Board of Directors.
WRMA Executive Director Valerie Cooper expressed her enthusiasm for
Mr. Malinow's recent appointment. "I'm delighted that Martin has
been added to what I consider a first- class Board," said Ms.
Cooper. "Martin brings us extensive experience in the weather
derivatives market in a variety of capacities and he will be
instrumental as WRMA continues to support the industry's growth and
success."
Mr. Malinow is Executive Vice President of XL Weather & Energy,
responsible for its global weather business. He held previous
positions with the company as head of marketing and then head of
portfolio management.
Prior to co-founding XL Weather & Energy in 2000, Mr. Malinow was
involved in the trading of fixed income derivative products at
various investment banks before joining the nascent weather risk
management industry in 1998.

Founded in 1999 by some of the leading companies in the industry,
the Weather Risk Management Association (WRMA) is an international
trade organization dedicated to promoting the industry both to those
within it and to end-users. The industry began in 1997, offering
companies the opportunity to control their financial exposure to
weather conditions. As a part of its mission, WRMA initiates surveys
of the industry, advocates the standardization of contracts and
other documentation used for transactions and sponsors forums and
conferences around the world for members to meet and discuss a range
of topics such as international markets, data collection issues and
tax and legal matters.
